چکیده

Heavy metal stress has marked effects on some growth parameters, physiology, anatomy, and genetics of plants. Among heavy metals, cadmium (Cd) is an extremely toxic one living organisms at even low concentrations. The presence Cd in air, water soil its accumulation plants create significant negations such as cancer, renal failure, cardiovascular musculoskeletal diseases humans when taken from direct indirect ways. defense mechanism the which responsible tolerance can be investigated to improve crop yield under stress. Numerous studies have shown negative exposed Cd. Therefore, this study, 0 (for control), 50, 100, 200 400 μM experimental groups) CdCl2 were applied barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) growth, development, physiological anatomical parameters measured. As a result, it been observed that manage terms conditions, however, they are negatively affected all concentrations certain extent. In addition, was adversely by high levels stress, although maintained their vitality throughout experiment.

Photosystem II of barley seedlings under cadmium and lead stress

Chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements were carried out on two barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars Arabi Abiad and Arabi Aswad at 8 and 14 days after emergence to identify their early tolerance mechanism for heavy metals (25 and 50μM of cadmium and lead). Transient fluorescence curves (OJIP curves) and energy flux models showed different specific reactions of photosystem II (PSII) of each cu...

Salicylic acid alleviates the cadmium toxicity in barley seedlings.

Salicylic acid (SA) plays a key role in plant disease resistance and hypersensitive cell death but is also implicated in hardening responses to abiotic stressors. Cadmium (Cd) exposure increased the free SA contents of barley (Hordeum vulgare) roots by a factor of about 2. Cultivation of dry barley caryopses presoaked in SA-containing solution for only 6 h or single transient addition of SA at ...

Abscisic acid accumulation and cadmium tolerance in rice seedlings

doi: 10.1111/j.1399-3054.2005.00490.x Rice (Oryza sativa L.) seeds were soaked for 18 h in distilled water in the absence (–PBZ) or presence (þPBZ, a triazole) of 100 mg l 1 paclobutrazol and then air dried. These air-dried seeds were germinated in the dark and then cultivated in a Phytotron. Twelve-day-old –PBZ and þPBZ seedlings were treated or not with CdCl2. Cd toxicity was judged by the de...

EFFECT OF SILICON PRIMING ON SEEDLING GROWTH, ROOT XYLEME ANATOMY AND ION ACCUMULATION OF BARLEY (Hordeum vulgare L.) TO ALLEVIATE DROUGHT STRESS

The detrimental drought effects could be listed as the loss in dry weight and silicon is known to enhance crop tolerance to drought by increasing seedling growth and hydraulic conductivity. To investigate the effects of silicon priming (0, 1 and 2 mM as sodium silicate), on seedling growth and root anatomy of three barley cultivars (Khatam, Rihane, and Nimrooz) a laboratory experiment was condu...

Effect of Calcium and Cadmium on Growth and Accumulation of Cadmium, Calcium, Potassium and Sodium in Maize Seedlings

we examined cadmium (0.1 mmol/l) toxicity and effect of different calcium concentrations (0.1, 1.0, and 10.0 mmol/l) on the growth of organs (root, mesocotyl and coleoptile) of 4-day-old maize seedlings in hydroponic cultures. The influence of both metals on distribution of cadmium, calcium, potassium and sodium in the organs of maize seedlings was also studied. Calcium at a concentration of 1....
